One of the world's largest hotels. In the past there were actually lions inside the hotel but they are gone now.
The name MGM Grand comes after a movie studio with the same name.

The hotel was owned by Kirk Kerkorian (an American billionaire) for a long time.
MGM Grand opened as one of Las Vegas first megaresorts on December 5, 1973 at another address in Las Vegas. Dean Martin was entertainer on the opening night.

When MGM opened in 1973, MGM was the largest hotel in the world.
When the hotel was built, it sets a new standard of size and luxury in Las Vegas, and is considered to have
made the biggest impact on Las Vegas until the construction of the Steve Wynns Mirage Hotel in the late 1980s.
After that, more hotels have been built and the rest is history.
The hotel was in a terrible fire that broke out in the casino and spread to the hotel in 1980. 87 guests died.
